Symmetry

I posted a new screenshot of Symmetry running in Virtualbox, just after I finished the basic initrd support today. I also moved the older screenshots into the screenshot archive, because the main screenshot page was getting far too big.

I will probably post a screenshot of the GRUB splash as well, but I should alter it first because it still says “Stephen’s Operating System” on it instead of the new name… Afterwards, I will also make a new CD image and post it in the downloads.

Well, along with the new name, I have just finished the first version of the new Symmetry web site. It is still slightly based on the Kubrick Wordpress theme, but now pretty much the only thing that remains from that is the sidebar.

I really like the site now - it is a lot cleaner than the old site, and I wanted to achieve a really clean look for the front page. I’ve hidden the sidebar on that page, and also made the main focus a big picture. It should be one of the first things you look at, so it contains a very short description of what Symmetry is. There is also more information below in three columns.

I’m really happy to see that Google have introduced a really good new SVN browser, that is exponentially more useful than the old one.

Previously, they just used the default subversion web viewer, which basically just gave you a listing of the most recent revision. Now they have their own system, where you can go back through previous revisions and see diffs between revisions. It also has a handy tree view of the directories on your svn server.

Also, I updated this site to the latest Wordpress yesterday. If anyone tried to access it yesterday, they would have noticed that it was down most of the day. I doubt anyone tried though…

I upgraded the site to the newest version of WordPress today. It has a few more cool features, and should make the site faster.

I made a downloads page, and in my opinion, it looks great. The only problem is that only the floppy disk image is currently up. I’ll make a CD iso and put it up tomorrow.

I made a screenshots page today. Currently it only has three shots, but I will take one or two more later.

I used the excellent lightbox script for the gallery. When you click on an image, the page dims, and the image appears in a box on top. You can click anywhere to go back to the page. The best thing about this is that you can open images in new windows or tabs, or “save link as”, and you don’t just get a javascript URL.

Now I just have to put up a disk and CD image for download…
